Happy 20th Birthday to the Foremost Travel Guides!

I started my career working in the sales and marketing department of the U.S. contingent of Dorling Kindersley Family Learning, a direct sales arm of the incomparable Dorling Kindersley publishing house, also known as DK. During my downtime, I’d flip through the DK Eyewitness Travel Guides, dreaming of the places I’d go and see. With the books’ 3-D imaging, it wasn’t too hard to picture the top destinations in my mind’s eye.

Flash forward, and this year DK Eyewitness Travel Guides is celebrating their 20th birthday! And they’re giving you the prizes! That’s right, you can win a 4-pack of these newly revised, updated and redesigned guides for 2014 (valued at $100): DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Italy, DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: London, DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: New York City and DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Paris.

On trips to London and Paris over the past few years, you can believe that I cracked open the DK Guides to see where we should go and what we should do. DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: London was invaluable in helping us navigate The National Gallery – we easily mapped out our visit instead of spending hours wandering the galleries (not a bad thing, to be certain!) in search of the most known masterpieces.

What’s new in these updated guides, you may ask? Have a look:

  • new itineraries based on lengths of stay (from 2 – 14 days), regional destinations and themes
  • city guides with tailor-made daytrip and weekend itineraries
  • brand-new, mapped hotel and restaurant listings, including DK Choice listings, with simplified price and cuisine categories
  • redrawn maps for improved navigation, as well as more detailed street maps, complete with subway/tube/Metro stops and viewing points

If you’d like a chance to win the 4-pack, simply leave a comment indicating how you use guides on your travels, and where you’re off to next!

Bon voyage!

Many thanks to Dorling Kindersley for inviting me to be a part of their birthday celebration, and for the giveaway for my readers.
